Applying For Jobs, Hiking in Hawaii, and FINALLY Finding an Affordable B-day Cake!

I'm so happy it's Thursday - even if it's a rainy Thursday. ;-)  On Thursdays I get to go out to lunch with my guys, which is always nice.  They are my friends, so it's fun to go to lunch with your friends, right? Today we had a Mexican lunch.  The place we go gives us a discount (cause we work at the Sheriff's Office) so that makes it taste even better.  ha ha  I have to go home this evening and cook dinner and probably clean.  I'd really like to relax this evening .. and play with Mr T!
I applied for 2 jobs online and got one application / resume ready to mail out today.  It's been hard finding jobs that I qualify for in Hawaii.  I guess the pickin's are slim, as some would say.  ha ha.  One job is a secretary position at the Department of Veteran's Affairs in the Veteran's Health Administration section.  This job pays really really well, and it would be such a blessing to have.  The other job is with the same Department but it's a Program Support Assistant position.  It pays really well too.  The 3rd job I'm applying for (I have to mail this one in) is a "Misc Clerk / Assistant" for the Navy.  All three of these jobs pay more than what I'm making now.  Deep down I'd love to have the secretary job, because it's basically what I'm doing now for a lot more money - but I will just have to wait and see.  I trust that God will look out for me and provide for our family.  I can't help but cross my fingers, though.  If you think about it, just mention a little prayer on my behalf.  If I could leave Florida knowing I had a job to go to in Hawaii, that would take a tremendous amount of stress off my shoulders.

One of the detectives from another unit brought over a hiking book for Hawaii.  He was stationed at Pearl Harbor when he was in the navy - what are the odds?!  I'm so excited to get there and go exploring! Shelby and I never had a honeymoon, so wouldn't it be nice to have this little "vacation"?? I just hope we don't run into any huge spiders! I might seriously have a heart attack and die...

I wanted to mention that I did find someone to make T's cake for his birthday!  It's going to be less than 1/2 of what the other place was charging (FOR THE SAME EXACT THING!)  This is such a blessing! Shelby was ready to fork out over $100 for his cake, that's how much we love this little man!  ;-) A cake he will never remember, none the less.  Ha ha BUT - thankfully I found someone else and all can go on as planned! YAY!

I hope everyone is having a WONDERFUL day! This weather is kinda messing with my spirit - but I'm determined to have a good day! :)

  1. That's awesome that the jobs you've found pay more than your current one. I know when I was in Hawaii, some items are way more expensive than they are in the continental 48 states. A gallon of milk was almost $7 (and that was 2001). Obviously, they don't have dairy farms there. Not everything was ridiculous, but I just remember that the price of milk REALLY stood out to me. And again, that was years ago so things could have changed! :)

And I'm glad you found a good deal on a birthday cake! They are so expensive sometimes! I can't imagine paying $100 for a cake...that just makes me sick thinking about it! Haha!

  2. The cost of living there is so high so I guess that is why the jobs pay so well, thankfully! Good luck to you on the applications!

Too funny you were going to pay $100 for a bday cake!! hehe. I was having a hard time paying $60 for my daughter's 3rd bday cake this year, so I searched and found a place that would do it for $45 or so. My daughter probably wont remember it, but, it was one of the most delicious cakes I have ever had! So worth it!

p.s. oh i'm sure you will see your fair share of big spiders out there- but then again, you are in FL now, I'm sure it wont be any worse!!!

  6. Sam's Club makes really good cakes at very reasonable prices.

I hope the job situation in HI turns out for the best. Just know that you can handle anything and not to stress. Everything happens for a reason.

  7. I really hope you get that job..I know that's one of the most stressful things you can go through! but God always provides.
We need a picture of that cake!

I hope you guys get to do so much fun stuff in Hawaii. I mean I guess it's like anywhere else. We're what...4 hours from S. Florida...6 hours from the keys? And we've never been to either. We just stick in Gainesville. And really anymore we stick to our neighborhood! But this will be an amazing opportunity, so take advantage!
